October 2023, The FWA Collection Vol. 15, Secrets, arrived:

It’s official! The FWA published the latest edition of their annual anthology, Secrets, and I received my copies. The print version looks great on my shelf! Hard to believe my short story, “Yard Work” made the cut, but I’m incredibly honored. I hope you’ll check this out online and pick up your copy here.

May 2023, Florida Writers Association Collections 2023 Competition:

Stoked for some great news on the short story front! My entry into the 2023 FWA Collections contest, “Yard Work,” won selection and will be published in this year’s anthology, Secrets. As a novel (long-form) writer, writing short and sweet challenges me, so I’m doubly honored to share this win and be part of the anthology.

Spring/Summer 2021 and 2023, again, I’ve been honored to help judge entries in our incredible FWA competition, the Royal Palm Literary Award, which offers every participant an in-depth rubric of their work. The experience is both eye-opening and educational. Judging really makes you study both the craft of writing as well as how to convey feedback in a positive, constructive manner. Once again, I’m glad for the opportunity. Best of luck to this year’s participants! Winners will be announced in October at the Annual Florida Writers Conference.

September 2020, Royal Palm Literary Award Competition:

Once again, I’ve had a novel honored in the prestigious Royal Palm Literary Awards, and I’m humbled to be included again in this increasingly tight competition. This year my latest novel, Treasure Bound (second in the Treasure Quest series), first had been chosen as a semi-finalist and subsequently a finalist. This is pretty much my dream and my nightmare: to have my second book try to meet the success of my first….wow, and fingers crossed! Regardless of the final outcome at the award ceremony in October though, I’m over the moon right now! Thanks again so much to all of you, dear readers, who make writing worthwhile. You rock!

And in newer news, as I continued preparations to publish my second novel this year:

Spring/Summer 2019, a privilege bestowed on me: as a past recipient of a prestigious Royal Palm Literary Award, I was asked to help judge the submissions for this year’s contest. Wow! I enjoyed the experience and learned a great deal. Judging the work of my fellow authors really challenged me to be both critical and supportive. I’m grateful for the chance to read so many diverse works. Best of luck to all this year’s participants! I can’t wait to hear the verdict later this month from the Annual Florida Writers Conference.

An accolade I could barely imagine, and one I can now claim: award-winning novelist! My head is high in the clouds over this wonderful win. So many thanks to the FWA and RPLA members and organizers for the platform to showcase our work as writers. Thank you, always, for your support!

From the FWA RPLA Press Release: “A win at any level can help any writer market their manuscript or published book, and the detailed feedback from the judges is invaluable for all entrants,” Ms. Coward [RPLA chairperson] said. “What an incredible honor,” said Carolyn Greeley. “This win for my debut novel blew me away. And what great motivation. I’m writing Emerald Obsession’s sequel, so I’m happy people enjoyed that book and hope they’re excited to read more.”

As a storyteller, I’m stoked when I hear people have enjoyed my book. I’m among the thousands of writers who submit their works to competitions, striving for recognition and affirmation. So when I learned I was chosen first a semi-finalist, and then a finalist in this year’s Royal Palm Literary Award (RPLA) Competition, I screeched my surprise and joy to all within hearing distance (sorry, hub!). Disbelief and excitement swamped me, as I read what the judges said about my submission to this year’s awards:
“Lately, lots has been going on with RPLA: the competition has expanded in both size and reputation, the entries are increasingly professional, and the judges are more selective than ever. It’s an understatement to say that competition is stiff, and we are pleased to announce the entry cited above [Emerald Obsession] is a finalist.”
Thank you again to all of you who support me and my books, as well as reading and storytelling in general. I’m in awe. And please keep your fingers crossed for the final judging, which happens in October.
